Better Than Waterfront!

What could be better than waterfront living? This house, that's what!...

What could be better than waterfront living? This house, that's what!

For those of you who have always thought it would be nice to live on a lake but didn't want to pay the price or the taxes to be able to live on a lake, this may be the perfect answer. You can enjoy the views of Shadow Lake from your home AND have a fishing pier, a sandy beach plus a whole park right outside your door! In case you didn't think about this part, it also means that you don't have to do the upkeep…you just get to enjoy it.

Talking about enjoyment time, with all of the updates that have been done to this house, you're not going to be spending all your time fixing things up so you REALLY will have time to go fishing and swimming. The minute you walk in the front door and see the kitchen, I think you'll be in love. It's got rustic hickory cabinets, ceramic tile floors, a Subzero refrigerator and all GE stainless steel appliances (double oven, range, microwave and dishwasher). After you're done drooling, you may want to take note of the breakfast bar and especially what's on the other side of the breakfast bar. Even though the kitchen is great, the sunroom (which is currently used as a dining area) would be my favorite place to be. It's a triangular shaped room with windows all along the two outside walls. The natural light is great, the view is great and the heated floors will keep you toasty warm. The living room is next to the sunroom and kitchen and it has a patio door leading to the 500+ square feet of decking. Down the hall you'll find 3 bedrooms and a full bath. There's also a half bath on this level. The lower, walk-out level is mostly finished with a large family room, an office/den, a full bath and a laundry room. The laundry room is so big, right now part of it is being used as an office. There's plenty of storage space in the unfinished room with the mechanicals.

Outside, besides the deck, there's also a nice patio area that's great for grilling out or just hanging out. It's located behind the 2 car garage.

If you want to feel like you're living on the lake but don't want to pay lake front prices, don't miss this opportunity.
This home is located east of Waupaca just a short drive off Hwy 54. In other words, even though it's private, it is NOT way out in the boonies. It sits on 11 acres (per A/O) with over a half of mile of frontage on the South Branch of the Little Wolf River (per GIS). Not only can you enjoy the river from nearly every room in the house, you can enjoy it from the deck, from the backyard and from the mowed paths throughout the property. The yard is nicely landscaped and meticulously kept. I'm going to use one of those over used phrases here, but in this case it REALLY is true…this property is a park like setting. I can envision strolling along the paths just to watch and listen to all the birds and other wildlife and then having a picnic in one of the large grassy areas on the paths. When I don't want to do any more walking, then I'd just sit next to river and try my hand at fishing! Sounds pretty relaxing to me.

No matter how much you like being outside, you'll have to spend some time indoors so you'll appreciate that the house here is really nice too. I think everyone's favorite room in this house is going to be the living room. It's got lots of windows on the river side of the house, open beamed ceilings and a wood stove. The split bedroom plan is really nice too with the master off the living room and the other 2 bedrooms down the hall on the other end of the house. The second bedroom is nearly as big as the master and the 3rd bedroom has a set of bunk beds that stay with the home. Another thing that they have in this house is something I've always wanted because it seems so handy. When you come in the back door you're in the laundry room and guess what? There's a shower in there. I think it would be so nice to come in after working in the yard, strip off the dirty clothes and jump in the shower without ever tracking any dirt through the house.

There's a 2.5 car attached garage as well as a 2.5 car detached garage providing space for all your cars, boats and lawn equipment.

When you're ready to check out this riverfront property, give me a call.

1 rustic loaf of bread, unsliced, either Italian or French
12 ounces...

1 rustic loaf of bread, unsliced, either Italian or French
12 ounces shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1/4 cup (less or more to taste) chopped pickled jalapenos
1/4 cup chopped green onions, including greens
1/4 cup (4 Tbsp) butter, melted

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Slice the bread almost all the way through (not all the way) in a cross hatch pattern, spacing an inch between the slices.

Place the shredded cheese in a large bowl. Toss with the green onions and jalapeños. Pour over with melted butter and use your clean hands to toss, to distribute the butter evenly through the cheese.

Place the bread on a large sheet of aluminum foil (large enough to wrap the bread) on a baking sheet. Stuff every crevasse with the cheese mixture. Wrap with the aluminum foil. At this point you can make ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake.

Place in the oven for 15 minutes. Then uncover the foil from the bread and cook for 10 minutes more, until all of the cheese has melted.

Place on a serving board or plate to serve.

1 egg white

1 egg white
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (can use chunky if you want, will result in a more crumbly bar)
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3 cups Old Fashioned oatmeal oats (do not use instant or steel cut)
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
1/2 cup golden raisins

Line a 9x13 baking pan with parchment paper, so that the parchment paper extends over the edges of the pan. Set rack in the oven to the middle position. Preheat oven to 350°F.

Take 1/2 cup of the oatmeal oats and pulse them in a food processor until finely ground. Place these ground oats with the remaining oatmeal, and the cinnamon in a bowl and stir until combined. (You can skip this step if you don't have a food processor. Just proceed with the recipe with the full amount of oats.)

Either with a stand mixer or by hand with a whisk, beat the egg white until frothy. Beat in the honey. Beat in the peanut butter. Add the oat cinnamon mixture. Pour the melted butter over everything and stir until well combined. Stir in the raisins.

Spread the mixture over the bottom of the parchment paper-lined baking dish in an even layer.

Place in oven and bake for 25 minutes, until nicely browned on top. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Use a sharp knife to cut into 12-16 bars. Return to the oven, lower the heat to 300°F and bake for 15 more minutes. Remove from the oven to cool.

Let cool completely before eating. Cooling is important for the bars to set, otherwise, they may be a bit too crumbly.

1 pound asparagus, woody stem ends removed
1/2 pound pink salad...

1 pound asparagus, woody stem ends removed
1/2 pound pink salad shrimp, cooked, shelled
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 garlic clove, minced (1/2 teaspoon to 1 1/2 teaspoons, depending on how much you like fresh garlic)
1 Tbsp lemon juice (more to taste)
1 Tbsp minced fresh parsley
Salt and black pepper to taste

Bring a medium pot of water to a boil and salt it well. Add the asparagus to the boiling water and boil for 3 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove the asparagus to a bowl to cool. Add the shrimp to the pot of boiling water. If they are pre-cooked, remove after 30 seconds—this is just to warm them. If the shrimp are uncooked, boil them for 2-3 minutes, until cooked through. Remove the shrimp and add them to a large bowl.

Slice the asparagus spears thinly on the diagonal until you get close to the tip. Cut the asparagus tips off in one piece. (They look prettier that way.) Put the asparagus in the bowl with the shrimp. Add the remaining ingredients and toss to combine. Add salt and black pepper to taste. Add more lemon juice if desired, to taste.

1 bunch of medium sized asparagus, about 1 lb
2 Tbsp of the most exquisite extra virgin olive oil
2 Tbsp freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon lemon zest - freshly grated lemon rind
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Prepare the asparagus by rinsing them thoroughly, break off any tough, white bottoms and discard. Cut into 1 to 2 inch sections, slicing the asparagus at a slight diagonal.

Fill a medium sized saucepan half way with water, bring to a boil. Add the asparagus and reduce heat slightly to a simmer. Parboil the asparagus for exactly 2 minutes. Drain the hot water. While the asparagus are still hot, toss them in a bowl with the olive oil, Parmesan, and lemon rind. Salt and pepper to taste.

I figured I would give mention to Party Blip.

One day, I decided to do a somewhat thorough search for Wisconsin events such. This was mostly for local bands.

I came to a couple good websites but they always focused on one city and really only for Madison and Milwaukee. I asked myself, why isn't there one for Wisconsin in general. So, I started Party Blip.

Would love some feedback, comments, etc.

Also, if you know someone that would want to add events to the site please tell them about it ;)

Our "Radar" is at: Upcoming events

Firm, Sandy Frontage on Silver Lake

Close your eyes for minute. Now imagine that it's a really hot summer...

Close your eyes for minute. Now imagine that it's a really hot summer day and you're strolling through your back yard to go jump in the lake and go swimming. Now imagine that it's evening and you're sitting on your deck watching the sunset over the lake. Are these things that you'd like to quit dreaming about and make into reality instead? Well, here's how to do just that.

This 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is located just west of Waupaca and sits on approximately .78 acres with 103' of firm, sandy frontage on Silver Lake (acreage and frontage per GIS). Silver Lake is a no wake lake that's great for canoeing, kayaking and swimming. A great thing about the location is that not only do you get to live right on a nice, quiet lake; but on those days that you want a little more excitement and want to go skiing and such, the Chain O' Lakes is just minutes away.

The house is a 1 ½ story with a full, walk-out lower level. There's a bedroom and bath on the main level and 2 more bedrooms and another full bath on the upper level. The open concept living room, dining area and kitchen are all situated so you can have a view of the lake from any of those rooms. Patio doors in the living room/dining area give you access to the 10' x 32' deck. The laundry room is also on the main level. The upper level has a loft that is a great place for an office or reading area. The lower level has a large family room with doors leading to the back yard. The remainder of the lower level is unfinished, but should you need more room, you could definitely finish it off.

There's a 2.5 car attached garage as well as a 2.5 car detached garage (carriage house) with a loft. It would make a great workshop or a place to store the boat, snowmobile, lawn equipment, etc. The sellers are going to leave several things to help you start enjoying your back yard and the lake such as the paddle boat, swim raft, pier, yard swing and picnic table. Plus the sellers just put a new roof on in April 2012 AND they're offering a home warranty.

If it's time for you to quit day dreaming about living on a lake and actually do it instead, call me.

I got in a new coon. Her name is June.

She is a tiny little thing! 4 yrs old and only 10 1/2#. She fell out of the tree as a eyes closed baby (I'm wondering if mama didn't toss her out?) She got neurological issues. She does backward circle walking, has a head tilt and will go into alligator rolls if startled.

She's lived 4 yrs in a chain link kennel with NO top! Any normal coon would have climb out given the chance. She does not climb and does not dig.

Right now she hates me, as expected. But I've made great progress with sweet potato fries, hard boiled eggs and blue berry frosted breakfast bars.

My hopes are to eventually get her in that Keeper Coon Building. She's a ground dweller and I do have several different ground boxes she could use.

At the spay the vet found a massive tumor on her uterus. She is the first coon this vet has ever done and the vet and staff just loved June.

For a limited time get a free basic spray bottle with the purchase of 1 gallon of Genesis 950.

Genesis 950 removes the toughest stains. Whether it be pet stains, make up spills, rust on your carpet, grease and build up on your appliances or a simple food or drink stain, Genesis 950 has the power to remove it.

Genesis 950 works differently because it is a surfactant based cleaner. What this means is that Genesis 950 works with water to absorb into the stained area, break the bonds of the stain and lift it. In addition to removing stains, Genesis 950 deodorizes and kills germs and bacteria.

The spray bottle makes cleaning with Genesis 950 even easier. Mix 1 part Genesis 950 to 7 parts water. Spray the stained area and let it soak for a few moments. Scrub the stained area until the stain is lifted, then rinse with water. If the stain is persistent, increase the amount of Genesis 950. With the spray bottle at hand, you are ready to tackle any stain as it happens.

Hey, I had to put something into the Title field,,,might as well make...

Hey, I had to put something into the Title field,,,might as well make it a little interesting.

I'm not a space alien, although coming from Chicago it sometimes seems that way. I was born in San Mateo, California and would have grown up there if my dad hadn't been transferred to the corporate headquarters in Evanston, IL. So I grew up in the north suburbs of Chicago, and have lived in or near Chicago for most of my life.

I've had three careers:

Designing, building and operating high quality PA systems for musical venues mostly. I've done a bit of lighting and power distribution as well. I did that from my mid teens through my 20s.

Television production and engineering. That's where my formal training is. Most of my work has been in the technical / engineering areas, although I've been told that I'm a good "shooter". That was back in the days of analog-only and before CCD cameras. I can set up and register an old Ikegami in a jiffy...which isn't a marketable skill any more. I have been keeping current, and have been doing some work using AVCHD cameras, non-linear editing and streaming video.

Information Technology Systems. I've always liked computers as toys, but when I was in DC looking for TV work, I was given the opportunity to do professional IT work. That's been my job for 15 or so years. I started at the bottom and worked my way up. My last major gig was consulting on building a data center for a Chicago ISP. I've done the corporate IT thing, and hope I never have to do that again.

Right now I'm recovering from a chronic illness that has sapped my energy. My #1 job is trying to find things to stave off cabin fever. So if you need an unusually experienced part-time intern in any of the above three fields, I'm available.

I'm single, never married, no kids. My closest family is my mom, who refuses to leave her tony Chicago suburban lifestyle, albeit in managed care. I'm an only child, and believe that kids should be there for their parents. So if I didn't have an 88-year-old mother in Illinois, I'd probably be living with my cousins down south. But now that I see what Wisconsin has to offer, I think I'll stay a while.

This is the time of year when I get a lot of questions from folks about how long they should keep their tax returns and records. Most people squirrel away these documents forever, unnecessarily accumulating boxes of papers. Although they think they're being cautious, in reality this is a security risk, as these records obviously contain lots of personal and financial information.
Still, you'd be surprised at how much you can safely discard. Here is what you should keep and how long you should keep it.

I always find it interesting to see photos and read stories of the child stars that are now grown up. It's sad tho to see how some have messed their lives up. :(

I was certainly surprised at a few of the names here.

Amanda Bynes, who was arrested on suspicion of DUI on in Los Angeles recently, is the latest celebrity who made it big as a tyke only to end up on the wrong side of the law later in life. Check out photos of Lindsay Lohan, Shia LaBeouf, and other former child stars who've been arrested.
